about
This track comes from a future Thirteenth Hour sequel where the main character, Aurora, is trying to decide what to do. She is torn between venturing to unknown territories, away from the home she and her husband have built together, and learning more about her identity, family, and abilities. As an orphan who has no memory or knowledge of her family, there is naturally some curiosity there, no matter how much the present may cover that up. In quieter moments, she takes solace in music, her home, discussions with her husband, Logan, and the night sky.
I originally wrote this song years ago for the acoustic guitar, which is probably actually closer to how Aurora played it on the lute, though what I consistently heard in my head was not an acoustic song but a retro synthpop song, which eventually (after many, many iterations) became this version. So in the words of Robert Frost contemplating many miles to go before sleeping while "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," the creation of this song has taken me on a journey of many miles with many a wrong turn. However, it is finally at journey's end.
lyrics
Intro riff - C Am F G
C
There's a place far away
Am
Many miles from my home
F
So much there I do not know
G
Perhaps I should go
C
But I dunno, I dunno.
Am
It's just that people tell me so ...
F
Destiny comes and goes
G
But love’s here, that I know.
C
There is a place
Am
A place where all my problems keep.
F
A place where decisions sleep.
G
So I guess that's where I'll go.
C
There is a hill.
Am
Near where I live, and you can see for miles.
F G
Up and up and all around with clear night skies.
C
So I ask up above
G
Under the blanket of the moon
F
Which direction should I choose?
G
I dunno, I dunno.
Chorus
F G
Standing at a crossroads
Am F
Which way should I choose?
F G C
I hope each way leads back to you.
F G
Yes, I’m standing at a fork
Am
Two way to go
F G C
I hope each way leads me back to you.
Instrumental solo - C Am F G
