This is a song written for the novella, "Empty Hands," a martial arts fantasy that was originally going to be a segment in the retro 80s novel, "The Thirteenth Hour." The novella is about the military training of eight recruits, and since so many 80s cartoons seemed to want to teach children the value of teamwork, it felt right to pay tribute to the intros (and sometimes closings) of 80s cartoon. In other words, the lyrics are intended to be cheesy in an earnest kind of way. On a more serious note, they hark back to the elemental philosophy discussed in the book (earth, wind, water, fire, and void), itself taking inspiration from Japanese esoteric Buddhism.
